Foundations of Software Business: Copyright policy

The Copyright License of Foundations of Software Business is distinctive from other areas of SWBCommunity.org because of our desire to attract a expert and experienced group of Editors and Authors. Our expectation is that such Editors and Authors will expect attribution and credit for their work, peer review and permanent archiving, and will want to prevent others from modifying the work without their permission. On the other hand, we expect that Authors and Editors will be willing to work without financial remuneration, given the large number of individuals involved in this project and the limited opportunities for profit for an open-access book.

Chosen copyright license

The Editorial Board has not yet been constituted and chosen a final copyright license. However, the most likely choices are the following, which are consistent with the goals set forth above:

When the Editorial Board has made a determination, the copyright policy will be posted on this page.

Printed-and-sold book

Our intention is to publish a printed-and-sold version of each edition of the book. Our sole purpose in doing so is to make these materials available in a form that is more convenient for some readers, and particularly students in university courses on software business. Our promise is that if we publish the book commercially, any royalties will be first used to support SWBCommunity (such as paying for hosting and maintaining technical and administrative support of the site), and that any royalties remaining will be donated to the Computer History Museum with a designation to support the Museum's efforts to capture and preserve the artifacts and history of the software industry.

Editor and Author agreement

By virtue of contributing to the book Foundations of Software Business, all Editors and Authors declare themselves to be in agreement with these copyright terms and conditions.
