"The article reports on strategic planning in management. The authors focus on two strategic business plans that focus on efficient resource allocation and personnel management. It is suggested that managers focus on strengthening their companies' core competencies in order to deter competition to protect market share. Market strategies utilized by companies including Nike and Apple Computer are presented as successful examples of strategic business plans. The authors also propose that managers consider outsourcing when it seems to be the most effective strategy. The benefits of long-range business strategies are compared to those of short-range plans."
